Choosing Bifocal Contact Lenses Has Never Been Easier

Contact lenses are an easy and popular way to correct impaired vision. They have been in regular use since the 1950s when hard contact lenses were introduced. Soft contact lenses became available in 1971.

Both hard and soft contact lenses are made from polymers. Typically, hard contact lenses are not disposable and soft contact lenses usually are. Some soft contact lenses are known as extended wear lenses. Rigid gas-permeable (RGP) lenses have now replaced hard lenses.

More recently, bifocal contact lenses and multifocal contact lenses have become available and are especially useful for anyone suffering presbyopia – the inability to focus your eyes at close distances. Presbyopia is a normal part of aging and occurs in almost everyone.

If you already wear contacts lenses and start to experience difficulty in reading smaller print it might be time to consider multifocal or bifocal contact lenses. Similarly, if you use the type of magnifying reading glasses that are readily available in drug stores and they are no longer making it easy to read then you may wish to start looking into whether bifocal contact lenses might be the right solution for you.

Many optometrists will be able to provide you with trial samples of multifocal or bifocal contact lenses so be sure to ask at the time of consultation. Just as bifocal glasses do not suit everybody, bifocal or multifocal contact lenses are not suitable for everyone. Also, check with your insurance provider as the cost may be covered under your health plan.

I recently tried bifocal contact lenses for the first time.
